​ Samsung Dex

Samsung has also introduced an optional docking station with the new S8 smartphone series that can turn the phone (or phones) into a desktop computer when connected to a regular TV. Dubbed DexStation, users will be able to resize windows and work on several apps at the same time in this mode. It's similar to Microsoft Continumm.

The DeX Station can connect to the smartphones to any HDMI-compatible monitor. DeX supports keyboard and mouse gestures as well.






It's been just a few days since Samsung launched its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ flagship smartphones just a few days. And now, 'Microsoft Editions' of the two handsets have been announced. But contrary to what you might be thinking, these are not Galaxy S8 and S8+ running Windows 10 Mobile OS. They just come preloaded with additional Microsoft apps.



It is worth noting that Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ already come with some Microsoft apps (e.g. OneDrive, Skype) preinstalled. According to a report by Engadget website, the smartphones' Microsoft Editions come with additional apps including Cortana, Outlook, OneNote, Bing, Groove, MSN News and more. the Galaxy S8+ Microsoft Editions come with additional apps Cortana, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, Bing, Groove, MSN News and more.


"Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ Microsoft Editions arrange those productivity applications on the home screen and provide additional accessibility to other Microsoft-owned applications such as LinkedIn, Wunderlist and more," a Microsoft spokesperson told Engadget.



It was also mentioned that "a Microsoft customization is applied to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Microsoft Edition when the devices are unboxed and connected to Wi-Fi. This customization ensures customers a best-in-class productivity experience with Microsoft applications such as Office, OneDrive, Cortana, Outlook and more."



The Microsoft Editions of two Galaxy smartphones are up for pre-order in the US and will start shipping from April 21. They can be purchased from Microsoft Stores as well.

It is worth noting that with the inclusion of new Microsoft apps in the special edition, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will feature three digital assistants - Google Assistant, Samsung Bixby and Microsoft Cortana. There's a dedicated button to fire up the Bixby assistant.


The original Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ are also available for pre-orders in the US. The devices are available in Midnight Black, Orchid Gray and Arctic Silver colour options. The Maple Gold and Coral Blue colours are region specific.
